Reed to receive Atwood Award in January

Dr. Helen Reed, professor and head of the Department of Aerospace Engineering, will receive the AIAA/ASEE J. Leland Atwood Award during the 46th Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, Jan. 7-10 Reno, Nev.

The J. Leland Atwood Award, co-sponsored by American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Aerospace Division, is bestowed annually upon an aerospace engineering educator in recognition of outstanding contributions to the profession. Reed is being recognized for important contributions to space systems engineering and space systems design education.

A medal, rosette pin, and certificate of citation will be presented to Reed on January 8. 2008.

Reed is an accomplished educator, and a national leader in boundary-layer stability and transition, and micro-/nano-satellite design. She is a new 2008 AIAA Fellow, is a Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Physical Society, and is Chair of the Aerospace Department Chairs' Association.

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) advances the state of aerospace science, engineering, and technological leadership.
