Mahadevan awarded Givens Associates position

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Vijay Mahadevan, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Nuclear Engineering at Texas A&M University, has been awarded the Givens Associates position by Argonne National Laboratory (ANL).

This fellowship is designed to encourage graduate students who intend to pursue careers in numerical analysis or computational mathematics. The Givens Associates will work collaboratively with the scientists at Mathematics and Computer Science (MCS) Division, ANL, designing, analyzing, and implementing numerical and visualization methods.

Mahadevan came to Texas A&M to pursue his master¿s degree after receiving a Bachelor of Technology degree in chemical engineering from Regional Engineering College, Trichy, India. He also worked as a senior software professional at Dell Computer Inc. in India and is currently a graduate research assistant at Texas A&M.

He has served as a research engineer at the Idaho National Laboratory for the past two summers. He is a member of the Alpha Nu Sigma society and the American Nuclear Society. He was a Regents Fellow at Texas A&M in 2004. He won second prize in the inter-college software contest conducted by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in India.

Mahadevan's primary areas of expertise include coupled multi-physics modeling techniques in nuclear reactor analysis, and consistent numerical methods for efficient and accurate simulation of reactor accidents and transients.
